Growing Need for Supply Chain Investment

Growing Need for Supply Chain Investment

The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) today launched a video encouraging governments to work with industry on driving national productivity through supply chain efficiency and safety.

Now is the Time to Get the Supply Chain Right, launched at the ALC Parliamentary Function at Parliament House in Canberra, features eight executives from Australia’s top logistics organisations discussing the economic and social benefits of safe and efficient supply chains.

“The video highlights how greater focus by governments on improved freight planning, investment reform, corridor protection and safety will support more efficient supply chains, and through that, a stronger economy,” said Michael Kilgariff, ALC Managing Director.

“It’s a powerful message from Australia’s leading logistics executives, and underscores ALC’s commitment to work with governments to progress supply chain investment and reforms to enhance freight efficiency.

“Headlining the video is the need for a national Freight and Supply Chain strategy which sets a long-term strategic framework for more efficient freight movements across our supply chains.

“The development of an overarching national Freight and Supply Chain Strategy is needed to drive improved decision making across all levels of government, and to provide industry with the confidence it needs to make long term investment decisions.

“A national strategy is also critical to addressing inefficiencies in our national supply chains which adds to costs for consumers and potentially affects the liveability of our cities.

“A National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy would build on the Port and Land Freight strategies which were developed under former Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese, and which established a solid foundation for future work in this area.

“With a new report by the National Transport Commission showing Australia’s freight task will increase by 26% over the next decade, now is the time for action,” he said.
