First Things First Coffee
Two entrepreneurial young men from Geelong have hit Adelaide by surprise with their latest project – First Things First Coffee. With James having a background in Occupational Therapy and Aaron being a Fitter and Turner, a drive-through café isn’t the most obvious choice of business for the men. With their hometown Geelong having 18 drive-through coffee shops, James and Aaron saw the hole in this market and a chance of success in Adelaide.
Using 3 x 20 foot high-cube shipping containers supplied by SCF’s Melbourne depot, James and Aaron started the modifications in James’ parent’s Melbourne backyard. After the main modifications were made, transportation of the containers from Melbourne to Adelaide was seamless, as the containers fit perfectly on a truck. The ability to save on transportation costs and land leasing during the modification process, made shipping containers the ideal foundation for their project.
Architectural drawings were created to present to the Adelaide council and approval was granted without delay. After many long 16 + hour days, James and Aaron have transformed the containers into a trendy, eye catching drive-through café that has fit their ‘industrial hipster feel’ brief.
With external wood cladding, concrete flooring and industrial lighting, it is hard to recognise the original containers. Engineering and compliance with Australian building standards made the project slightly challenging, but James and Aaron urge anyone to give building with containers a go.
Grand opening was on Monday 26th October 2015 at 371 Main North Road, Enfield, Adelaide.
